What is Medicare Supplement?

Medicare Supplement insurance plans, also referred to as Medigap insurance plans, are policies that help pay for your share of Medicare expenses. Medicare covers 80% of your Part B so these Medicare Supplement plans are used to help “bridge the gaps” in coverage. Medigap plans were created to help pay for some of those Medicare expenses.

Some of the main benefits of a traditional Medicare Supplement plan are:

• Freedom to choose your own doctors and hospitals
• Help with peace of mind on out of pocket costs (depending on plan selected)
• Referrals are not required to see your specialist
• You can use your Medicare Supplement plan anywhere in the U.S.

Each Medicare Supplement plan is labelled with a letter (Plan A – Plan N), just be careful not to confuse these letters with your Medicare Part A and B. Each Medigap insurance plan is different on what they cover.
